While not strictly single player, this seemed like the best place to post this.
Guild Wars 2.
So, while we don't as of yet have a release date (suspect late summer); there's a lot of interest flying around about this game. Some of you may be interested, others may not. Personally I played this game at Pax East 2010 and really enjoyed what I saw and played. Thus, it should come as no surprise that I pre-purchased the game when it became avialable to do so. One of the many benefits of pre-purchasing is access to all beta events. And the next one of those just happens to be occuring next weekend (April 27th).
I'm making this thread as a place to ask any question any of you guys may have. I'm going to be testing out my computers ability to handle some video recording this week; so, if there's anything you might want to see or have shown to you, please, ask away. On the off chance my computer decides it doesn't like capturing video of me playing, at the very least I will get screenshots for you.
Ask away!!
Edit 8/26/12: Game is now in prerelease swing, and official release is still on tuesday the 28th of August. For anyone who purchases the game and wishes to join in, I'm on the Blackgate server (server transfers are free for a week or so; might change). You can friend me in gmae with using my ID: Bluewolf.4390

I'm seriously considering getting this game, mostly because of the things I read about it being a single player friendly kind of game. However just curious if anyone else from Trivial plans on playing and/or forming up a guild??
Oh and the fact that it's free to play is a huge draw for me.
I'll be playing both GW2 and WoW. GW2 only has the box price and no sub fee, so that's nice. I've played all the betas and the gameplay is very fluid and tight. The box price is for all content, you wont have to purchase additional content (except perhaps expansions later down the line), and besides a few minor boosters, everything is cosmetic.
I don't know if anyone else from Trivial is planning on playing, as at the time of writing this we're 8 days from headstart (11 from official launch). I personally haven't decided on which server I'll be playing on (should know in a couple days) but that wont really matter, as guilds are cross server, you can be in multiple guilds, home server is transferable for free for the first week or so, and afterwards there is a server guesting system so you can play with anyone on any server any time you want (only exception is the World vs World vs World massive Siege PvP, which you can only play for your home server [think DAoC]). There is no PvP in the open world; all PvP is done in either the WvWvW and the PvP maps, so you wont be ganked out doing PvE.
Personally, I'm going to be playing for the PvP and WvWvW. WvW is, think 2 week long AV, only larger scale.. much larger scale, with trebuchets, catapults, batterin rams, golems, castles.... yeah. The PvP bg's are small skirmish, think a mix of AB, Arena, and Gilneas, with 1 or 2 other mechanics. PvP is fast paced, but there's no globaling someone. People don't die super fast unless 3+ people surprise them.
As for PvE, it's fun, it interesting (Has some really awesome lore if you're into that stuf like me). There are dungeons (5man) but no raids. No real healer/tank, any dungeon can be done with any combo of classes. Each dungeon has, essentially 4-5 parts. There's a story part, and the explorable parts that are unlocked after the story. The explorable parts are somewhat fluid, meaning, major bosses wont change, but you may or may not run across certain other mobs/traps throught the dungeon that weren't there lastime you came in. ANd these dungeons are challenging.
If you're looking for large scale raid style bosses, there are many world bosses that will have entire zones trying to kill them. The open world events and bosses scale based on the number of active participants around them. Everyone can rez others (in and out of combat) and you get xp/participation for doing so.
Loot is personal, so you get your own loot from any kill no matter how many other people participated.
The combat is actiony, so you have a lot of active dodging and moving around. Very few skills lock you in place, you can cast/melee/range just about all skills on the move.
From what I've played over the beta, I think it's worth the cost of the box price. And with no Sub fee, it's easy to just jump in whenever and do what you want, or jump out to another game at any time. The game feels good.
I'll update as soon as I figure out what server I'll be rolling on, just in case anyone from guild would like to join me.
I purchased the digital pre-purchase and trying it out at the moment.
I spent some time on Tera and it was okay initially. Highly iritated with the slowing down of movement speed in combat (like wtf?!) and broken combat mechanics I lost interest.
Finding a dungeon group was horrible since it stuck to the 'holy trinity' of grouping. I actually tried out Tera because I had thought it was like Monster Hunter where an mix of classes could be successful.
So glad to hear GW2 also avoids the 'holy trinity' and is more action oriented. Anyways I'm current trying out an engineer in GW2.
Just saw you are on Blackgate server as well. I'll hit you up once I found an race for my engineering I'm content with.
Been playing a few days now with the pre-purchase option. Even on the first day there were gold spammers, people complaining about everything, nerd raging, bashing the guy who asks a "silly" question....gotta love MMO's!!
Aside from that, this game is freeking huge, the scenery is amazing, the cities are fantastic and easy to get lost in, its really a beautiful game. But I would highly recommend a top end rig and video card to experience it the way its meant to be seen. My desktop plays it at max settings and looks awesome. Big bummer though because I mostly wanted a game to play on my travel box (shuttle), and even at it's lowest settings its unplayable, while WOW still nets me 20-40 fps on average.
Its also very detailed oriented, from the way you use your skills down to the point of coloring your armor the way you like it. It's just generally more complex than WOW could ever be. So far it's fun and new and shiney, however IMO it's not a WOW killer by any means.
I've been playing as well (StormBluff Isle, I think is the server). The game is a lot of fun and is huge. I love the flow of combat, especially when there are a lot of people around. The game is complex but lets you get moving and exploring the world nicely. It does have some problems when you want to be with others though. The instancing causes a lot of problems staying together (overflow, anyone?) and your class quests pretty much have to be done solo. It is not going to be much of a wow killer as far as a group game is concerned. Perhaps, when things stretch out as people level up, it will be better but I expect as you hit level cap it will have problems again. Still fun, but not going to replace WoW as my main game.
No game will ever kill WoW. WoW will be up and running for many many years to come, even if they don't do any expansions after MoP (which I highly doubt).
The overflow is a little out of sync at the moment for some people. Essentially it's their queue system, and it's great when solo, but I know some people have had some issues with joining their friends on the overflow when in a party with them, often, going from a cityor other zone back into the zone you want to be with your friends on will fix it, for some people the right click on their portrait in the party and select join has worked, for others it still doesn't.
I will say Tril, that the personal storyline gets easier to do as you get further along, with others. All the stories start to converge. So long as people have the same objective, you can party for it and share getting it done.
Sithelf, the graphics and art in the game really is amazing. I know they had some optimization issues with some really beasty machines and mid range comps are running the game better than most others. It is possible to run it all on low with a machine from few years back and still get some decent fps. I've heard from some people that have machines that are like 5-6 years old that they were running with a solid 30 fps. Of coursr there are others that can't. Sadly, it's req's to get a decent fps are higher than WoW, but, it IS a 2012 game vs WoW's 2004, with updates to where I would say WoW is now at 2005-6 standards (my opinion of course).
Of course, I'm a huge PvP fan of this game and have been playing FAR too much World vs World and PvP "battlegrounds." It's a fun game, and is poilished enough to keep me interested for some time (and the jumping puzzles that kill me over and over again); will still play WoW, will have to see how much I like MoP as I haven't gone into the beta at all.
I'm enjoying it so far. I'm on the same server as Trilana, though server won't matter once they fix the guesting program.
The game really requies a change to the mindset of a player, esp. when coming from WoW. Combat is dynamic; if you need to dgdge, you move, for instance.
As it is free to play, I'll enjoy it for some time at a leisurely pace. WoW isn't going away for me.
We have a guild on StormBluff Isle, Grim Legions. Hit me up as Saracor.3219 if you want to join. You can be in multiple guilds and eventually across realms.
